About Marcus



Self-taught chef, Marcus Bean, whose passion for cooking drove him to win Iron chef UK in 2010 on Channel 4.

Having run a very successfully pub for 5 years with his wife Jenny, Marcus found himself being selected as a contestant for Channel 4’s Iron Chef UK. He breezed through the first two rounds and went on to beat top chef Martin Blunos in the final!


Following his success on the show, Marcus has been a regular chef on ITV’s This Morning, cooking for Holly Willoughby & Phillip Schofield and other presenters on the show. He’s appeared on Good Food’s “Market Kitchen”, Channel 4′s “What’s cooking” & ” ITV’s Munch Box

Marcus is a regular Cookery demonstrator and Host at food shows around the country including BBC good food show, Birmingham, Scotland & London. His personality and enthusiasm for food make him great to watch. This year he’s been demonstrating at Food shows around the country including hosting the Super theatre at The BBC Good food Show London & Birmingham.

Marcus likes to keep fit and ran his first ever marathon in London Marathon in 2013 &  again this year raising money for Motor Neurones disease. He has also signed up for the 2015 Marathon.

Marcus and his wife Jenny successfully ran The New Inn, Baschurch Shropshire for 8 years, where Marcus honed his skills in the kitchen.


In December 2012 they purchased Brompton cookery school & Brompton farmhouse Bed and Breakfast, part of the Attingham park estate with National trust.

Marcus teaches a wide range of courses at the school on a daily basis.

He’s also become a keen gardener growing lots of seasonal produce in the kitchen garden for use on the courses.

Marcus teaches the majority of the courses, but also has a great selection of  his friends that are also specialists in their trade to teach at Brompton. Including Robert swift a Master Baker from Ludlow whose family have been baking for over 150 years. Rob teaches all the bread courses at Brompton. For foraging courses it’s the fantastic Liz Knight from forage fine foods.

And for Butchery & game David Maughan a trained master butcher, game keeper and deer stalker.

For the Asian and Indian courses one of Marcus’s old employees David Parker who’s head of food development for a large company and has spent years researching Asian and Indian foods for the UK market.

Marcus & his wife Jenny also run a successful catering business from Brompton, with weddings on location, and catering for small or large dinner parties or events around the country.
